Stevie Algers, 19, was slut-shamed by the owner of the Australian brand Aquadiva
Swimwear which she models for, Allison Appleby, as a result of a picture she posted on
her personal Instagram page. After telling Appleby that she felt “self-conscious” in a
poster that Aquadiva planned to blow-up in poster, Allison responded with an offensive
answer.
In a sequence of Instagram DMs, Allison informed Stevie that the photo she modeled in
was going to be posted in, “a huge poster on our wall” in an upcoming pop-up shop.
Stevie responded saying, “I just don’t really like that photo of myself …I’m just self-
conscious but I know I can’t really do anything about it.” Allison first replied with a
compliment, “What! You look gorgeous.” When she received no response from Stevie
after 10 minutes, she lashed out on the model saying, “Well don’t even have the decency to reply then. o disappointed Stevie — I personally chose you because you seemed like such a nice girl. This is such a rude and immature way to treat us. You don’t seem to be self-conscious in your latest post with the way you are portraying your self-image — sitting with your legs so far part! It seems like you are just like a lot of other Insta girls — so fake. From Allison.” Ouch! Allison told the Daily Mail Australian that the she, “…apologized to Stevie twice now but she has not accepted my apology.” Additionally, she has reportedly received “hate mail” calling her a “cow” and “pig.”
Stevie, on the other hand, wants to move on past the hurtful incident. “I absolutely think what she said and how she has handled herself is wrong in so many ways, but I think it will be best to end it here to hopefully move on,” she said. “I’m a huge believer in standing up to bullies and I’m lucky to have [my boyfriend] by my side to help me. I’m very happy that at least we made a point and hopefully she will never treat someone like that again.”
